The village of Timia

|
|
Timia is an oasis located in the Sahara over
six hours drive from the closest airport at Agadez,
Niger. Bushtracks has recently built a tented
camp for guests traveling on a Sahara Air-Expedition.
Two groups visited the Timia camp in Nov. and
Dec. 2006 and may expressed a desire to "give
back" to the community. After meeting with
the Mayor of the greater Timia region (a territory
covering 24 miles by 240 miles) the most important
project at this time is the construction of a
High School.
|
|
The present High School building is made of simple grass
mats on a wood frams. |

This is the present classroom
|
|
The goal for the new High School building will be
to have cement cinder block construction which is far
more permanent than other buildings in the village.
The cost of construction will be very expensive as materials
have to be brought many miles across dirt roads. Fortunately
we will be contributing to a bigger project being undertaken
by GTZ, a Non-Government Organization from Germany which
has staff in Timia.

importance of the High School project.

In December 2006 fifty travelers raised $1,255 to help
close the gap needed to fund the the new High School.
The Mayor is shown here receiving the donation from
the Bushtracks Expedition Leader.
